What's the difference between a 'crossing' and a 'crossroads'?

As nouns, the difference between a crossroad and a crossing is that crossroad is a crossroads (the place where one road crosses another) while a crossing is an intersection where roads, lines, or tracks cross.

As an adjective crossing is (rare) extending or lying across; in a crosswise direction.

As a verb crossing is.
