Uncountable Nouns(Vocabulary List)

vocabulary already is a countable noun. The definition of vocabulary is a collection of words. For ease of understanding, try mentally replacing "words" with "fruit". Any grammar rules that apply to collections, also apply to vocabulary.
Definition:

Uncountable nouns are a type of noun that can't be counted. They're often things that can't be physically counted, like air or water. Even though they can't be counted, uncountable nouns can still be pluralized.

There are a few rules to remember when dealing with uncountable nouns. For one, they can't be used with a number (except for a fraction, like 1/2 of a glass of water). They also can't be used with the indefinite article a or an.

Types:

There are two types of:

  1. mass nouns.
  2. abstract nouns.

  1. mass nouns:

  1. abstract nouns:

Abstract nouns are nouns that refer to things that cannot be seen or touched, such as love, happiness, and peace.

Rules : 

There are no hard and fast rules for using uncountable nouns, but here are a few pointers:

1. Use uncountable nouns with a singular verb.

2. Do not use articles (a, an, the) with uncountable nouns.

3. You can use quantifiers (some, any, much, many) with uncountable nouns, but not countable nouns.

4. You can use uncountable nouns with adjectives, but not countable nouns.

5. You can use uncountable nouns in expressions of quantity, but not countable nouns.

For example:

  • There is some sugar in the cupboard.
  • There are many books on the shelf.

Conclusion : 

There are many uncountable nouns in the English language. 

These nouns cannot be counted because they are either intangible (information, advice) or have too many pieces (furniture).
