Academic Writing Task 2 Topic: Advantages and Disadvantages of New Technology-IELTS

Advantages and Disadvantages of New Technology - New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time.
Definition-

You will have one hour to finish the entire writing test, including tasks 1 and 2. It is advised to complete work 1 in no more than 20 minutes and devote the remaining time to task 2, as task 2 will earn you more band than activity 1. Grammar and word usage on the test will both be taken into account when determining your score. Use around 150 words for task 1 and 250 words for task 2, respectively.

Question-

The way that kids now spend their leisure time has changed thanks to new technologies. Do you believe that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks?

Sample answer-

Today, technology has prevailed over many industries, which has changed how children in the area spend their free time. Although that is consistent with the rate at which digitization has advanced and may be helpful in that regard, it has a significant number of disadvantages that outweigh its benefits in the long run. The next sentences in this essay will analyse each side.

There are some benefits to kids spending their free time studying about technological advancements and how they operate because it keeps them active and in step with the changing environment, especially in the modern period. It expands their understanding of digital technology, which has come to be essential in many spheres of life. It not only enhances their technological prowess but also keeps them interested and involved, which increases their skill in this area. For instance, gaining knowledge of coding, programming, and web development enhances one's judgement and makes one more employable.

However, there are numerous serious drawbacks to that as well. The availability and exposure to the digital world that kids receive at such a young age has frequently shown to be potentially dangerous to kids' personalities and thought processes.Teenagers have been found to be more susceptible to falling for phishing scams and other online scams. Additionally, certain websites and vehement content are more harmful than helpful. Again, health issues like obesity, dry eye problems, stress, migraines, etc. are particularly common among the group of youngsters who use computers a lot. When it comes to the negative foreground, graphic violence is once again one of the dynamics that stands out the most. After several complaints about "Bluewhale's" effects on the younger generation, who were allegedly committing suicide after finishing the game, certain games like it were outlawed.

Overall, it can be said that while technological advancement is currently necessary, the risks associated with kids using it in their free time far outweigh their benefits in the long term.
