Introduction

IELTS Writing Task 1 is designed to test your ability to write a short, clear and concise report on data or information. In order to achieve a high score on this task, you need to be able to identify the main features of the data and describe them in a logical and coherent way.

Criteria of scores:

The IELTS Writing Task 1 score is based on four criteria:

  • Task Achievement: This criterion assesses whether you have accurately and sufficiently described the data in your report.
  • Coherence and Cohesion: This criterion assesses whether your report is easy to read and understand.
  • Lexical Resource: This criterion assesses the range and accuracy of your vocabulary.
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: This criterion assesses the range and accuracy of your grammar.

To get a high score in each of these criteria, you need to use a range of different grammar structures and vocabulary accurately.

Tips

Here are some tips to help you improve your IELTS Writing Task 1 score:

1. Plan your report before you start writing. This will help you to identify the main features of the data and organize your ideas in a logical way.

2. Use a range of different sentence structures in your report. For example, use simple sentences to describe the data and complex sentences to explain the trends.

3. Use a variety of vocabulary, including synonyms and antonyms. This will help you to avoid repeating yourself and make your report more interesting to read.

4. Pay attention to spelling, punctuation and grammar. These are all important factors in achieving a high score in the Grammatical Range and Accuracy criterion.
