What is Writing Task 1?

It is the first section of the IELTS writing test. It assesses your ability to describe information presented in a graph, table, chart or diagram. You will need to write a report of at least 150 words.‍
Introduction

The IELTS writing task 1 is designed to test your ability to write a short, clear and concise essay on a given topic. In order to do this, you will need to have a good understanding of the question and be able to structure your answer in a logical way.

Task 1 is worth one-third of the total marks for Writing on the IELTS test. This means that it is very important to get a high score on this task.

The good news is that there is a specific structure that you can follow to help you write a high-scoring IELTS Writing Task 1 report.

There are three main types of writing task 1 questions:

-describing trends

-describing process

-comparing and contrasting

You should write an introduction to your description just like you would for an essay. Points to keep in mind when writing an introduction are:

The purpose of the paragraph is to focus on the components of the graph/bar chart/table/process/map, etc.

Reading and understanding the question will help you write this paragraph.

Use paraphrases instead of exactly the same words as in the question.

It may be possible to earn extra points by using synonyms for the keywords in the question!

In your paragraph, make sure you mention any timeframes mentioned.
