The basic rules of syntax in English

A group of words without a subject or predicate. Clauses: A group of words with a subject and verb. Sentence structure: The construction of simple, compound, complex, or compound-complex sentences. "Syntax skills help us understand how sentences work—the meanings behind word order, structure, and punctuation. By providing support for developing syntax skills, we can help readers understand increasingly complex texts" (Learner Variability Project)
The basic rules of syntax : -

  1. A subject and a verb are necessary in every sentence. However, the subject of imperative sentences (commands) is already understood to be the person to whom the sentence is addressed, therefore it is not necessary to specify it.

  1. One primary concept each phrase is recommended. It's advisable to divide a statement into many sentences if it contains two or more concepts.

  1. The verb comes after the subject in the sentence. If a sentence includes objects, they come after the verb in the sentence.

  1. Subject and verb are also needed in subordinate clauses, often known as dependent clauses. More information on using subordinate clauses in sentence construction is provided below.
  2. Adverbs and adjectives come before the words they describe. Use the correct adjective order, which is known as "Royal Order", if more than one adjective describes a single noun.
