Metaphor definition and its examples.

A metaphor is a figure of speech used to connect two ideas by suggesting an implicit similarity between them that isn't accurate.
Definition-

A metaphor is a figure of speech used to connect two ideas by suggesting an implicit similarity between them that isn't accurate.

In a metaphor, two things are related not because they are similar but rather for the purposes of contrast or symbolism. There is no such thing as a black sheep in a family, but if we interpret a metaphor literally, it may sound odd in real life. However, if we interpret a metaphor metaphorically, it refers to someone who has embarrassed his family.

Here are some examples of Metaphor listed below-

  • 1- Love is a battlefield

In this sentence, it doesn't mean that when we are in love, we have to fight a battle but it means that if we are in love, we will face problems which are comparable to a battlefield.

  • 2- Chaos is a friend of mine

In this sentence, it doesn't mean that chaos is literally a friend of mine but it means that I often face chaos so I’m used to it.

  • 3- His words cut deeper than a knife

In this sentence, it doesn't mean that his words are made of sharp objects but it means that he said something that is hurtful to someone.

  • 4- I'm feeling blue

In this sentence, it doesn't mean that someone is blue in color but it means that someone is sad.

Conclusion

In poetry, metaphors are employed to improve the poem's quality and enthrall the reader with the poem's emotional roller coaster, which he won't want to miss.
