Parts of Sentence | Class 4 | SpeakoJunior

A sentence is a combination of words put together to convey an idea, a fact, a question, a thought, a request or a command. Does that mean that you can assemble words in any order? Will it still be a sentence? No! Learn what a sentence is and how they are formed in this article. Furthermore, go through the components of a sentence, the types of sentences, and the given examples to understand how they are structured.

What is a subject?

The subject is the initial portion of a sentence that shows which person or thing is being spoken about.

Simply go through the following sentences.

  • Shikhar works in a bank.
  • The goat is a four-footed animal.
  • They are neatly dressed.

What is a predicate?

It comes after the subject. Whatever we speak about the subject is called predicate.

Examples:

1. Aman is playing cricket.

2. Sonam dances well.

3. we go to school every day.

The predicates in the above sentences are the words 'playing cricket', 'dances well', and 'go to school every day', which are used to describe the subjects.
