It was fascinating to read about everyone's favourite family custom! I'm from England, but I've lived in the United States for five years, and November 5th's Bonfire Night is what I miss the most.
The fireworks, together with the bonfires, are the greatest part of Bonfire Night. and the background to it. There is a poem that begins, "Recall, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason, and plan," that is related to it. Because of this, we create a "guy"—a life-size replica of Guy Fawkes—and burn it on the bonfire. When you think about it, it's very nasty and dark!
